About Meta Tags Analyzer

Each page should have a unique set of keywords and description stored as metadata. Some search engines use Meta tags, as a contributing factor to page ranking and some don‟t. On-site optimization focuses on factors affecting the website to do with its hosting, structure, accessibility and content. Users enter keywords to search information on search engines. Keyword represents the relationship between search term and several billion of web pages. On-site optimization includes website design elements such as keyword in meta tag, keyword in title tag, external link, keyword density etc., which are controlled by site itself.

Meta Title Tag <title>

Meta Title is the biggest ranking factor; very important determinants of search engine placements. Most search engine use the website‟s title tag as main factor of sites listing in search result pages. A title tag tells both users and search engines what the topic of a particular page is. The tag is placed within the tag of the HTML document and each page of a Web site should have a unique title. Page Title Tags should include the most important keywords related to that page, besides the site identity. Every page must have a unique title. Ideally maximum display limit of title is 70 characters for Google, while Yahoo displays slightly less.

If a document appears in a search results page, the contents of the title tag will appear in the first line of the results. Words in the title are shown in bold if they appear in the user's search query which can help users recognise if the page is likely to be of interest to them. If a user then clicks the result and visits the page, the page's title will appear at the top of the browser.

Best practice for title tag

  • Create unique title for each page.
  • Avoid using a single title across a large group of pages.
  • Use brief, but descriptive titles

Meta Description Tag <meta name="description" content="Your Text">

The meta description tag contains description of page that is informative and reflects the content of web page. The website will be indexed if related keywords are found in meta description tag. The description tag is the next most important Meta tag. As with the title, your description will typically be listed in the search engines. Remember the Meta Description tag is only seen with the Page Title Tag so be very cautious of any duplication.

A page's description meta tag gives search engines a summary of what the page is about. Where a page's title may be a few words or a phrase, a page's description meta tag might be a sentence or two or a short paragraph. Ideally maximum display limit of title is 320 characters.

Best practice for description tag

  • Use both primary and a few secondary keywords in your meta description.
  • When feasible, use unique descriptions for each page.

Meta Keywords Tag <meta name="keywords" content="Your page keywords">

Search engines these days tend not to use the "keywords" meta tag in their Web search ranking, in fact Google disregards keyword meta tags completely. Thus adding keywords to meta tags is no longer a requirement. Still some of the other search engines may use keyword meta tag to rank pages so implement it with few keywords of your page.
